How to Create a Podcast Guest One Sheet (w/ Examples)

Being a podcast guest is a worthwhile marketing strategy if you’ve got a brand to grow, a book to promote, or something else to shout about. And whatever your motive is, making a guest appearance (or two) is one of the most effective ways of getting in front of a new audience.

Sounds simple enough. Right? But how do you actually get booked on a show?

For a host to invite you onto their show means you’ve got to tell them why they need you. What value will you provide their audiences with? A podcast one sheet is the perfect place to do that.

This article will talk through what every good podcast one sheet should include. We’ve also created some examples using a couple of our MatchMaker guest profiles, to give you an idea of what you should be aiming for visually.

Why Do You Need to Create a Podcast One Sheet?

It’s true that you don’t explicitly need a podcast one sheet to get booked on a show. It will definitely help, though. So having one to hand is always good practice. You’ll be able to use it over and over again too, meaning there’s little upkeep required. Even better.

As touched on above, one sheets are valuable for any guest that’s wanting to promote their work, raise their profile, network with other industry professionals, boost their social followings, or increase their SEO ranking. Basically, the better your podcast one sheet, the more likely it is you’ll get booked.

Let’s dive into the different elements of a podcast one sheet.

5 Things Every Podcast One Sheet Should Include

Below is everything you need to include on your podcast one sheet. Try to keep each section as concise as possible. Rambling on for too long may cause you to lose the reader’s attention.

1. A Headshot

As with most personal profiles, you’ll need to include a headshot on your podcast one sheet. Not for vanity reasons, but more to show the podcast host who you actually are. You don’t need to be dressed up to the nines, but choosing one where you appear professional, inviting, and friendly is recommended.

💡
Make sure your image is in high resolution and free from blur. If you want to know more about what a good-quality image actually is, click here.

2. Your Bio

This is probably the most important part of a podcast one sheet. It’s the main chance you’re going to get to tell the reader who you are, what you do, and why you would be the perfect guest for their show. What value do you have to offer their listeners that others don’t? Remember to include all your relevant achievements, accomplishments, and anything else that adds to your credibility.

💡
Writing your bio in the third person makes it much more memorable and easier for the reader to digest.

3. Suggested Interview Topics

To make sure you’ll be getting the most out of your potential guest slot, use your one sheet to let the host know which topics you’re knowledgeable on. It doesn’t have to be an exhaustive list, but you should aim to convey an overall vision of your niche, and what you’ll bring to their show.

4. Suggested Interview Questions

Once you’ve highlighted your general topics of interest, you should then break it down and offer some suggested questions for the host to ask you. These should be a lot more specific than the suggested topics above. What do you actually want the host to ask you? And what questions can you genuinely answer best that will give their (and yours) audiences the most insight or value?

5. Contact Information

This one’s easy enough. Make sure you state your contact information somewhere on your podcast one sheet. This might include your phone number, email address, social media links, or your website (etc).

Designing Your Podcast One Sheet

When it comes to actually crafting your podcast one sheet, you want to make it appealing and professional. Memorable, but not OTT. An A4 page size will typically work best.

For design purposes, we’d recommend using Canva. Canva is a graphic design platform that’s free and easy to use. Once you’ve made an account, you’ll be able to choose between different templates and designs to give you the best possible start.

Don’t worry if you’re not a naturally-talented graphic designer. But to help you out, here are some pointers for building your podcast one sheet using Canva:

  • Search ‘CV’ in the document templates box, and choose a design that suits your tone
  • Use your chosen template as the basis of your design
  • The page will already be well laid out, so you won’t have to make too many changes
  • Keep to the pre-set fonts and colours to maintain a good visual effect

Two Examples of Great Podcast One Sheets

So without further ado, we’ve pieced together 2 podcast one sheet examples using a couple of MatchMaker guest profiles. Check them out below:

Example #1: Fiona Frills

Example #2: Nate Dukes

As you can see, both one sheets include each of the 5 points explored in the body of this article. Again, these are:

  • A Headshot
  • Your Bio
  • Some suggested interview topics
  • Some suggested interview questions
  • Any relevant contact information

They’re also inviting, insightful, and professional looking.

Once you’re happy with how your podcast one sheet looks and sounds, you’ll be ready to incorporate it into your overall guest pitch and start sending it out to podcast hosts.
