How to Create a Great Guest Video Pitch

Adding a video pitch to your MatchMaker profile could seriously increase your chances of finding a great guest spot!

Video pitches are a Pro feature for guest profiles only. They’ve been designed with you in mind, to help you stand out from the rest!

Seeing the value in adding a video pitch is easy - it creates a much more engaging experience for anyone who lands on your profile. And that always translates into more guest bookings.

Plus, you get to showcase your personality and competency behind the mic and in front of a camera. Hosts can see with their own eyes that you're technically proficient and can present yourself well. That goes a long way when it comes to getting booked.

So what’s the best way to create your video pitch? Here are our tips and tricks!

Adding a Video Pitch to Your MatchMaker Profile

Have you upgraded to MatchMaker Pro? If not, this will be your first step. Besides having amazing features like the video pitch, signing up for MatchMaker Pro gives you unlimited messaging, priority listings on search results, and free access to monthly networking events & expert training classes.

Once you’re a Pro member, click on the "Edit Profile" button to get started and the first thing you should see should be the option to add a video.

There are a couple options here. You can either:

  1. Upload a video file from your computer.
  2. Record directly in the browser.

What You Will Need To Prepare

But before you add your video pitch, you have to plan it out.

Consider this - you have a 60 second time limit so there’s no time to waste. Don’t try to wing it. If you do, you'll probably miss out something important. Doing a little preparation before you sit down to record will go a long way.

If you need a script, then by all means, write one. But try to avoid sounding like a robot (remember, podcasting is an audio-first medium!). Scripts are great but they can scare you into thinking you can’t stray for them and this can cause you to lose focus half way through your recording.

Instead, try noting down a few pieces of key information you'd like to highlight about yourself and your expertise and add some personality to your delivery.

What to Say In Your Pitch

Your video pitch should include your name, a brief summary of your background and interests, as well as your credentials and/or experience.

Once the basics are out of the way, include a list of things that you can speak about as a guest and outline anything else that makes you a great guest.

Make sure you end the video with a short call to action asking people to message you on MatchMaker in relation to bookings.

Lights, Camera, ACTION!

Here’s a quick guide to creating a quality video:

Lights: Make sure your lighting is good. You want the light to be facing you, for example, you can sit in front of a window or use a lamp that you can face towards you.

Camera: Most smart phones and laptops these days have amazing camera capacity but if you do happen to have a professional camera on hand, use that.

Action: Mount your camera at eye level and look directly into the lens. If you have a mic that you can use - use it! This will significantly increase the quality of your video pitch.

Ready to Record?

You are now ready to create magic with your very own video pitch. It’s time to dazzle potential hosts with your delivery!
